salams, I read your 'about' page , your such a classic in humour .
about the pic ,some people may take that as racist. But I don't think it was meant like that . I mean if it what was a white guy why wouldn't anyone react to it ?

I wouldn't say it's racist per se, but it perpetuates a stereotype. It implies that blacks are meant to be subservient to others, especially to whites. I should've mentioned this in my post, but most of the representations of black people I've seen in Argentina and Uruguay have been stereotypical and sometimes outright racist. Whenever you see artwork or figurines of them, they're either half-naked and dressed in African garb or are servants. Obviously, not all black people are like that. And they're typically jet black and have monstrously huge red lips. It's sad.

If that decorative thing was a white guy, I don't think it would be as controversial. White people are the majority and in power in Uruguay and Argentina, so it wouldn't have the same affect. It's hard to belittle a group of people when they're in control.

Thanks for commenting, by the way!

As Salaamu Alaikum:

Read your about page. Interesante dialago. Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed Latin America. There is certainly a lot of rich history and culture. I am sure the Muslim community is growing some.

Intersting blog. I hope to visit again.
